Karma Capital: A Case Study

Updated: Feb 2

Karma Capital is a boutique portfolio management firm that manages large pools of capital for HNIs and UHNIs.

With an experienced team that has deep knowledge of the Indian capital markets, Karma Capital is a platform for like-minded investors that rely on a disciplined, fundamental, bottom-up research process.

My role at Karma Capital?

To be their Media Representative.

Karma Capital will always hold a special place in my heart. It is one of the first clients I pitched to and onboarded at Pitchfork Partners.

With Karma Capital, the biggest challenge was that of awareness. Even though the business had been around for years, there was no media reception of the brand. The primary ask was to build a strong reputation for the brand that would strengthen its position as a leading player within the esteemed, competitive circles of asset, wealth management.

Karma Capital is also one to take pride in its talent. It's Co-Founders and Chief Investment Officers have both been in the business for over 30+ years. Building their reputation as seasoned thought-leaders was also one of the key responsibilities of this assignment.

Since the brand had zero presence in the media, it gave us the opportunity to strategically devise the right messaging for the brand. Constructing a detailed messaging framework was one of the first few tasks we undertook in this regard. This was followed by:

- Creating a brand messaging guide
- Building the profile of all the C-Suite executives
- Organize intensive media training sessions
- Creating a media dos and don'ts guide
- Organizing introductory, relationship-building meetings with leading financials
- Sourcing relevant media and interview opportunities
- Facilitating stakeholder participation at relevant events

All of this and more - regularly updating and daily reporting to the client.

The Result:

Our efforts were worthwhile as Karma soon became a media favourite and received a great amount of organic interest from some of the leading financial dailies of the country including the Economic Times, LiveMint and Financial Express. The company then went to do international interactions with the likes of Bloomberg, Citywire Asia & Middle-East, DealStreetAsia, Pensions & Investments, and more.

Client Feedback:

Working with Vishesh was a fantastic experience. He makes a sincere effort to understand the client brief in detail and his response was always prompt and with relevant solutions.

Vishesh is also a great team player as I've watched him work with the entire Pitchfork team handling the Karma Capital account - very effectively. He lives up to the meaning of his name and will be a "special" contributor to any team that he works with.
